16 March to 18 March - Croajingolong N.P. - Thurra River

Walk Leader(s): Lyn Evans and Phil Kendall
Meet at: Thurra River campground
Description: Terrain: Beach, rocky headlands, sand dunes, coastal scrub, walking trails and river bed
Time: Friday afternoon/evening
This is a weekend camp in Croajingalong National Park. The Thurra River campground can be reached via Cann River (about 2 hours via either the Princes Highway or Cann Valley Highway). The road turns off in Cann River township and takes about 45 minutes, the last section being unsealed (expect some pot holes and corrugations). It is well signposted as Point Hicks and Thurra/ Mueller camps at several points along the way. Arrival time is flexible from lunchtime on, since there is no organised walk on the Friday but various opportunities to walk or relax for those arriving early.
Grade: Moderate
Time: 1:00 pm
Distance: 10 km
The Saturday walk will start about 9.00 am and will be a circular walk which has a bit ofeverything, including lots of spectacular views and interesting and varied terrain and vegetation. There is a very small but dense section of coastal scrub where gaiters would be useful. Rock hopping around the headland is optional, if you are not keen on this, there is an easy walking trail alternative. Bring plenty of water in case of a warm day plus lunch.
Opportunities for swimming in several locations.
The campground has basic facilities (pit toilets, a few tables and shared fireplaces) and some campsites are suitable for caravans/camper trailers. You will need to bring drinking water, washing water is available from the river (bring a bucket). The cost is $20 per campsite per night, bookings are not necessary.
There are several possible shorter walks on the the Sunday morning and there are plenty of things to see and do in the vicinity. Lighthouse tours are available at 1.00 pm for those interested.
If you require further information, please contact Lyn or Phil.

Thanks for the photos Lyn and Phil - would have loved to have been there, but our new granddaughter Ivy was a slightly higher priority (mum and bub doing really well)      :)
